  • Description

Hundreds of angry fist-waving Cubans paraded outside the New York headquarters of the American delegation to the United Nations April 17. Supporters of the Castro regime, their anger was aimed at the United States Government for allegedly being responsible for the current invasion of Cuba.

Police estimated the crowd at about 600, but newsmen on the spot say it was nearer 1,000. As they marched with protest banners held high, they chanted "Yellow Press"... "Yellow Press".

As the press was one of the demonstrators prime targets, police stopped Gabe Pressmann - commentator for the National Broadcasting Company - from interviewing one of the leaders. He explained that police were anxious to avoid incidents.

From Park Avenue the demonstrators marched over to the United Nations building, where earlier that day Russia had called for an immediate halt to the "attacks against revolutionary Cuba" and accused the American Government of direct complicity. Mr Adlai Stevenson categorically rejected a Soviet allegation that the United States bore "full responsibility" for the invasion, and denied an accusation by the Cuban Foreign Minister that is had been launched from Florida.
