Background: 'Operation Tractor', part of Zambia's Transitional Development Plan is beginning to take shape.The scheme is for the benefit of settlement schemes throughout the provinces of Zambia.Before the month of august delivery of about 150 tractors is expected.Operated by the Zambian Ministry of Agriculture in conjunction with the Ministry tractors, and instruction is now ell advanced under Ministry of Agriculture experts.
At this stage is a pilot scheme, the introduction of tractors to the rural areas will be closely watched.Depending on the evaluation of this pilot scheme future scheme on a large scale will follow.
Officers instructing are, Mr.King, Senior Technical Officer, Mechanical Workshops (drives tractor from line), Mr.Gillette, Transport Officer, Mechanical Workshops (writes destination of tyre), and Mr.John Goodfellow Mechanical Inspector in charge of assembly of the large tractors (he drives large tractor from workshop).Seen lifting on tractor engine cylinder head is Mr.Andrew Mubanga, Assistant Instructor.
Assembly of the larger and small tractors is carried out at Mechanical Workshops - tractor parts are delivered in crates.Mechanical Workshops students are being trained in this assembly work, and it is this that the item is designed to show.
