    Soviet space achievements -- brought up to date by the success of the Salyut space laboratory -- have been unveiled for the Egyptian people. An exhibition mounted in the Ministry of Culture traces Soviet space technology from its beginnings. The loan of the exhibition is a result of President Podgorny's recent visit to Cairo.

    SYNOPSIS: Vostok, the Soviet capsule that carried the first man into space, is a star attraction for Egyptian youngsters in Cairo. While the latest Salyut space laboratory was continuing to make history at the weekend. a retrospect of earlier Soviet achievements in space went on show at the Egyptian Ministry of Culture in Cairo.

    A special place for the space dog Laika amongst all the hardware....
    .....and for Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space aboard Vostok.

    Luna-Nine softlanded on the Moon in 1966, transmitting photographs and statistics back to earth. The whole exhibition, on loan to Egyptian authorities, is a result of President Podgorny's recent visit to Cairo, during which the Soviet Union and the Egyptian signed a new fifteen-year agreement.
