  • Description

Members of the youth section of Chad's ruling Progressive Party paraded in protest against Libyan "interference in the internal affairs of Chad", in Fort Lamy on Wednesday (1 September).

The parade came as a demonstration of support for the Chad Government, which last week survived a coup attempt. Libya has been accused by President Tombalbaye of being behind the coup, and diplomatic relations with Libya have been broken off.

SYNOPSIS: Members of the youth section of Chad's Progressive Party marched through the streets of Fort Lamy on Wednesday protesting against alleged Libyan interference in the country's affairs. Libya has been accused by President Tombalbaye of being behind last week's abortive coup.

Chad National Radio broadcast the day earlier that Chad had formal proof of Libyan complicity in the attempted coup. The radio produced a young man who said he had been trained in Libya to set up a Muslim government in Chad by force.
