  • Description

Visnews at Beaulieu in the New Forest, April 5 film as Lord Montagu unveiled a commemorative plaque to the late Mike Hawthorn and opened a new extension to the Montagu Motor Museum -- one of the world's largest museums devoted solely to transport.

Before the opening by Lord Brabazon of Tara, Lord Montagu introduced to hundreds of guests his fiancee, Miss Belinda Crossley, whom he is to marry on Saturday.

Crowds flocked to the Beaulieu Palace House grounds to see the museum, opened by Lord Montagu seven years ago in memory of his father, the second baron and a motoring pioneer.

Cars dating back to 1895 are the oldest exhibits in the museum including a Leon Bollee, vintage Fords, Humbers and Bentleys.

The Montagu Motor Museum began with only a handful of veteran cars. Today in the new modern and spacious building it has some 500 exhibits.
