THE QUEEN MOTHER, MAKING HE FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE SINCE CRACKING A BONE IN HER FOOT, WAS WHEELED ONTO THE LAUNCHING PLATFORM, SPECIALLY LOWERED FOR THE PURPOSE.

BOTH ARE ONE-CLASS SHIPS WITH MODEST FARES, DESIGNED CHIEFLY FOR THE MIGRANT, TRADE TO AUSTRALIA.

    CONTRACT FOR THE SHIP, BUILT FOR SHAW SAVILL LINE, WAS ON BY THE THING AGAINST KEEN LOCAL AND OVERSEAS COMPETITION. SINCE THEN NO FURTHER ORDERS HAVE BEEN PLACED FOR PASSENGER SHIPS IN BRITISH SHIPYARDS.
