  • Description

Princess Margaret arrived in Yugoslavia on Monday with her husband, Lord Snowdon, on a seven-day visit.

After an official welcome at Belgrade airport, they were shown plans and projects for the city's further development and given a view of the capital as it stands today.

The Princess and Lord Snowdon were in Belgrade as the guests of President Tito. After a full two-day programme of sight-seeing, theatre-going and social events they were due to leave the capital for a tour of several widely different regions of Yugoslavia, including the Macedonian city of Skopje, rebuilt with British help after the 1963 earthquake; the Adriatic costs; and the island of Brioni where President Tito has his summer residence.

The Yugoslav press has given Princess margaret a great deal of favourable publicity. The papers have stressed her informality and her modern outlook.

She is the first member of the British Royal Family to visit a Communist country.
