  • Description

Men of the 1st Parachute Bat. are at present taking part in an exercise on the Kenya plains outside Nairobi. The unit was flown from Cyprus for the operation with the idea of testing both personnel and equipment at an altitude of over 5,000 ft.

At this height the parachutes take longer to open. Another factor involved is the warm dry climate found in East Africa at this time of the year. All the officers and men taking part will make two jumps from Royal Air Force Beverley aircraft.

As a result of a strong wind, four troops out of the fifty that took part in the first jump were injured. Most of them complained about the rough landing they made on the hard baked earth.
