Background: Mr. Paul-Henri Spaak, NATO Secretary General, arrived by air this afternoon in Athens coming from Ankara for a three-day official visit as guest of the Greek Government. Mr. Spaak will have talks with Greek Premier Constantine Karamanlis and Foreign Minister Evangelos Averof, on matters concerning NATO affairs.
The talks Mr.Spaak will have in Athens are nevertheless commented by NATO and foreign diplomatic circles with great interest as having special significance. According the these sources. NATO Secretary General will try to canvass Greek Government attitude on an eventual changing of the Allied Naval Mediterranean Command. And this in an attempt to satisfy General De Gaille's demand who recently requested the putting on the head of the Allied Naval Forces of a French Admiral. It is also expected that Mr. Spaak will examine the present situation in Greece resulted from the forthcoming establishment of medium-size Rocket Bases and following the expressed worries of the Greek People and the discontentment of the Opposition Parties.
