Background: Jugglers and clowns...acrobats and animals -- they were all there when the Moscow State Circus opened its 1961 season with a show in Hamburg, Germany, on Feb. 2nd.
After some highly polished performances from the jugglers, the clown Olec Popov became the centre of attention as he cleverly parodied the preceding act. Next, it was the turn of the lions. after their other tricks they rode round the arena on horseback, under the ever watchful eye of their lady trainer.
Among the other thrills and laughs were a space-rocket trapeze couple, Cossack stunt riders, daring balancing tricks, and a clowns' band.
