Background: The Indian Minister of Education and Social Welfare, Mr. Sidhartha Shankar Ray, today (Tuesday) discussed India's growing influx of East pakistan refugees with Prime Minister Eisaku Sato.
Mr. Ray called on the Japanese Prime Minister at his official residence in Tokyo.
The Japanese Government announced today it will give 2.5-million U.S. dollars aid to India as relief for refugees from East Pakistan.
The aid - extended through the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) - will purchase 16,000 tons of rice from japan for the Indian Government.
Mr. Ray arrived in Tokyo yesterday to press India's request for aid. He will leave for Australia tomorrow to continue his tour which will also take him to Thailand and Malaysia.
