    Background: British Postmaster General Wedgwood Benn now visiting Japan conferring with tele-communication Ministry Leaders, postal administration leaders, international telecommunication leaders etc. visited the Fuchu factory of Nippon Electronics Company to inspect and observe newly developed automatic post distribution equipments which is transistorised electric eye-machine.

    Mr. Benn accompanied by his specialists observed the operation of this machine which can classifies around 30,000 posts per hour. The first of all a lot of envelopes covering big, medium and small sizes were put in the big equipment which classifies big, medium, and small sizes and then culler handles the envelopes 30,000 items per hour of which thickness should be less than 6 mm and then stamp canceller line up all the envelopes or postcards in line and stamps each envelope or post cards and classifies all the posts to each destination divided into 43 prefectures provided each envelopes or postcards must have number such as 12 or 13 or 14 or 26 or 28 which represent 43 prefectures of Japan, however, which shall be applied any classification according to the order of the post office. Mr. Benn carefully inspected this machine and instructed his specialist to note down the strong points of this equipment as the United Kingdom is developing more or less same type of equipments now. This equipment cost 25 thousands sterlings and Japanese General Post Office is expected to adopt it for classification of the post purpose though labour unions of the post office is opposing to utilize this equipment as the government might curtail the personnel who are now engaging in the classification of posts.

    Meanwhile, Mr. Benn continued inspection of the another factory of this company where parts of the Syncom satellite is being constructed and he continues inspection and observation of the postal services and tele-communication systems, microwaves for telephone and television facilities throughout Japan.
