M. Felix Houphouet-Boigny was officially proclaimed Ivory Coast President for a third five-year term at ceremony in Abidjan on Monday (December 14).
Leading members of the government and senior officials attended the ceremony, which was held in the President's official residence, and directed by Supreme court President Alphonse Boni.
The President was elected unopposed for his third consecutive term of office last month. Over 99 per cent of the country's two million voters went to the polls-and over 99.97 of them voted for M. Houphouet-Boigny.
The voting was seen as an unreserved vote of confidence in the President, who led his country to independence in 1960.
