Background: The Pakistan Army has been reported recently to be shelling villages in the Khulna District of East Pakistan, near the border with India. As a result large numbers of refugees have been crossing the Ichmati River into India at the town of Taki.
Speaking in the Indian Parliament on Monday, Indian Primer Indira Gandhi appealed to the great powers to intervene in the conflict in East Pakistan. She put the total number of refugees who have crossed into India from East Pakistan at three and one half million, with more arriving every day.
Visnews cameraman Durgadas Chatterji filmed this most recent exodus from East Pakistan at the town of Taki on the Ichmati River. They are crossing into what they believe is the security of Indian soil. An Indian report, however, claims that Pakistan Government Troops are shelling across the border, and the indians are firing back.
