    AN EXACT REPLICA OF THE "SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS"--THE PLANE CHARLES LINDBERGH FLEW ACROSS THE ATLANTIC IN 1927 -- ARRIVED IN FRANCE TODAY (TUESDAY). IT HAD TAKEN THE SAME ROUTE AS LINDBERGH AND HAD DONE THE JOURNEY IN UNDER SEVEN HOURS. BUT THE REPLICA FLEW FROM THE UNITED STATES TO FRANCE INSIDE A GIANT C-141 STARLIFTER OF THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE'S MILITARY AIRLIFT COMMAND (MAC).

    LINDBERGH'S LONE FLIGHT TOOK 33 HOURS, 30 MINUTES AND 30 SECONDS. HIS MONOPLANE, DESIGNED AND BUILT IN JUST 60 DAYS BY RYAN AIRLINES, NOW HANGS IN THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION IN WASHINGTON D.C. BY LINDBERGH'S REQUEST IT WILL NEVER BE MOVED.

    THE REPLICA IS DESTINED TO BE FLOWN TO THE PARIS AIR SHOW AT LE BOURGET, WHICH IS NEAR THE SPOT LINDBERGH LANDED. IT WILL MAKE THE FLIGHT ON MAY 21ST, THE FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF LINDBERGH'S HISTORIC LANDING.

    FRANK TALLMAN, WHOSE FIRM TOOK EIGHT MONTHS TO BUILD THE REPLICA, WILL PILOT THE PLANE TO THE AIR SHOW, AND THEN IT WILL BE SHOWN AT THE UNITED STATES PAVILION.

    AT EVREUX, MR. TALLMAN TALKED TO A FRENCH REPORTER, WHO TRANSLATED FOR HIM. THE REPORTER ASKED MR. TALLMAN HOW THE REPLICA COMPARED WITH MODERN AIRCRAFT.

    AN EXACT REPLICA OF THE PLANE IN WHICH CHARLES LINDBERGH FLEW ACROSS THE ATLANTIC IN 1927 ON THE FIRST NONSTOP FLIGHT FROM AMERICA TO PARIS WAS BROUGHT TO FRANCE TODAY (TUESDAY) INSIDE THIS U.S. AIR FORCE TRANSPORT PLANE. THE C-141 TRANSPORT PLANE TOUCHED DOWN AT EVREUX.
