Background: VERONA, ITALY
US Brigadier-General James Dozier was examined as a witness when the summary trial of Italian Red Brigades members, accused of his kidnap, resumed in Verona, Italy. Nine of the defendants were present when General Dozier told the court about his 42-day captivity. It was the first time Dozier had seen his alleged captors since Italian anti-terrorist police rescued him on January the 28th. Dozier told Assize Court President Francesco Pulcini that he was struck on the right ear by two Red Brigades kidnapper disguised as plumbers at his home on December the 17th. He said that he was mistreated, being forced to listen to non-stop rock music through headphones. He said his kidnappers never specifically threatened to kill him, but when he removed the headphones, he was told he should leave them if he wanted to return home. Dozier was the first witness to be examined at the summary trial. Judgement is expected in the middle of next week (21-25 March).
