Background: The Malaysian Open Golf Championship in Kuala Lumpur was won by Hideyo Sugimoto of Japan. He beat Graham Marsh of Australia by shooting a pressure-packed par 72 final round. Strong competition was also offered by Hann Chang Sang of Korea and the Taiwanese player, Chen Chien Chung. But it was the Japanese newcomer Yoshitaka Yamamoto who put up the strongest challenge despite export play by the Australian team, Nevertheless the 35 year old Sugimoto lead from the outset and finished two strokes ahead of Karsh for his third victory in 10 years on the Asian circuit.
