    SENEGAL AND CAMEROON -- TWO FRENCH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES SEPARATED BY NINE WEST AFRICAN COASTAL NATIONS -- THIS WEEK JOINED OTHERS PROMOTING INTER-AFRICAN CO-OPERATION IN CULTURAL EXCHANGES. CAMEROON ON MONDAY (MARCH 6) OPENED A WEEK-LONG CULTURAL FAIR IN DAKAR.

    SPEAKERS AT THE OPENING CEREMONY IN THE DANIEL SORANO THEATRE IN DAKAR CALLED THE CAMEROON WEEK THE THRESHOLD OF AN ERA OF INTER-AFRICAN CO-OPERATION. THEY LINKED THE TWO COUNTRIES BY HISTORICAL RELATIONS AND HOPED THERE WOULD BE SIMILAR MEETINGS IN THE FUTURE.

    THE INFUSION OF CAMEROONIAN CULTURE INTO SENEGAL AND DISCUSSION OF THE VALUE OF SUCH EXCHANGES REITERATED THE WORDS OF AFRICAN MUSEUM EXPERTS WHO BEGAN A MEETING IN NIGERIA THE SAME DAY. THEY ALSO SAID THAT AFRICA WAS ON THE THRESHOLD OF AN EXCITING ERA AND URGED MUCH FUTURE CO-OPERATION, THOUGH MOSTLY IN THE FIELD OF ARCHAEOLOGY.

    STRESSING THE IMPORTANCE OF CAMEROON WEEK IN DAKAR WAS THE SENEGALESE MINISTER OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS, M. ASSANE SECK. HIS ADDRESS LOOKED TO THE FUTURE WHEN HE SAID: "THE AFRICANS OF BLACK AFRICA HAVE A SOLID BASE OF UNITY AND COLLABORATION IN THAT THEY ALL HAVE NEGRO-AFRICAN CULTURE.
