    IN BELVEDERE CASTLE'S MARBLE-PILLARED HALL THE AUSTRIAN STATE TREATY ENDING POST-WAR OCCUPATION WAS SIGNED 15 YEARS AGO.

    TODAY THE UNITED STATES AND SOVIET DELEGATES TOASTED EACH OTHER IN CHAMPAGNE BEFORE ADDRESSING THE OFFICIAL GATHERING. CHIEF AMERICAN NEGOTIATOR, MR. GERARD SMITH, IN HIS ADDRESS SAID:-
    MR. VLADIMIR SEMYONOV, CHIEF SOVIET DELEGATE, IN HIS SPEECH STRESSED THE POSSIBILITY THAT EFFECTIVE MEASURES TOWARDS CURBING THE STRATEGIC ARMS RACE WAS LIKELY TO MAKE A SUBSTANTIAL CONTRIBUTION TO THE STRENGTHENING OF WORLD PEACE. THIS, HE SAID, WOULD BE IN THE INTERESTS OF ALL NATIONS. THE SOVIET UNION WAS UNSWERVINGLY PURSUING A POLICY OF PEACE AND CO-OPERATION AMONG STATES. CONTINUING, MR. SEMYONOV SAID "WE STAND FOR PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE OF STATES IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR SOCIAL SYSTEMS, AS WELL AS FOR STRONGER INTERNATIONAL SECURITY AND DISARMAMENT."
    THE TWO SIDES ARE EXPECTED TO MEET TWICE WEEKLY FOR THREE MONTHS UNTIL THE SUMMER RECESS, AFTER WHICH THEY WILL RESUME TALKS IN HELSINKI.

    MR.
