Background: World Soccer champions, Brazil, scored a disputed 88th minute goal to beat Czechoslovakia One-Nil in a friendly soccer match at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday (7 April).

The match was the second of nine warm-up games which Brazil will play before setting out for West Germany where they play in Group Two of the World Cup Finals against Scotland, yugoslavia and Zaire. Following Brazil's one goal in the match, Czechoslavia and Zaire. Following Brazil's one goal in the match, Czechoslovakian goalkeeper Wenzel, his teams' hero after ra series of dazzling saves, had to be restrained by other players. Wenzel had claimed that Brazil's midfield player Marinho was offside when he scored from close range. The Brazilians were booed for the second time in successive matches.....the 87,000-strong crowd remaining unconvinced that the side is good enough to retain the World Cup this year. However, despite the one disputed goal, the Brazilians had controlled the match from the start, with Czechoslovakia often pulling back ten men in defence.

In the first half, Czech goalkeeper Wenzel was forced to make three brilliant saves on the line as the Brazilians mounted continuous attacks. The second half too was a busy one for Wenzel as the Brazilian forwards peppered his goal with shots. Czechoslovakia' only scoring opportunity came mid-way through the second half when mid-field player Bicovsky was tackled in the penalty area, stood up again to receive a pass in the goalmouth but his shot lifted over the crossbar.

Brazilian soccer officials were elated with their side's performance despite the lack of a big score following the lack-lustre One-All draw with Mexico in the first of their warm-up matches.
