At the United Nations on Friday, (June 8) Mr. Ali Humaidan Ambassador for the United Arab Emirates, said that the organisation was facing a crisis, with its prestige and authority undermined.
Mr. Humaidan was speaking on the third day of the Security Council's review of the Middle East.
He said that the Palestinians were being "persecuted" and deprived of their rights. No one should sit idly by, he claimed, while this situation continued.
The solution to the problem of international terrorism, Mr. Humaidan argued, lay in "uprooting the injustices" which were their cause. There could be no peace in the region, he asserted, so long as the Israeli occupation continued and the Palestinian people were deprived of their fundamental rights in their ancestral homeland.
