ALI: "About a year and a half."

REPORTER: "Wouldn't the temptation of, you know, the ring, the crowd, the cheers, the money ...?"

ALI: "Yes sir, but I know that I'm on top now, I don't have to ... (INDISTINCT) ... I'm doing the best thing. Like Jim Brown got out of the football ... (INDISTINCT) ... and I could stay here and fight till I can't fight no more. But I'll end up punched around and the last thing you'd know Muhammad Ali was knocked out by ... some examples. They thought I was finished when Joe Frazier got me, they thought I was finished when Ken Morton got me, thought I was finished when I was out of a job for three-and-half years, And they knew I was finished when I was signed for ... (INDISTINCT) ... So get out, on top, well invested, nice looks, straight, mentally well, first black fighter to ever do so. And this is a good thing, and I don't want to hand around just for a few dollars and slip up and end up getting caught by somebody instead of beating it. As of now ... (INDISTINCT) ... of all time to shut up, cause I've got the whole critics rom the box, next in big spark comes ... (INDISTINCT) ... most dangerous, he was terrible, he was going to wear me down, he was going to get me in the corner and just murder me ... as always I proved to still be the greatest."

    REPORTER: "Did you scare you?"

ALI: "Yeah, I was scared to death ... (LAUGHTER.)"

REPORTER: "May I ask you ... that's a beautiful carving. What is it?"

ALI: "The President of Zaire gave me this. I'm going back to see him next month."

REPORTER: "Beautiful, beautiful ... It's hand carved?"

ALI: "Hand carved, he had it ... (INDISTINCT) ... first President I ever got near in my life."
