  • Description

The world's biggest jigsaw puzzle was laid out on the paving stones of London's Trafalgar square yesterday (31 March) to celebrate a $1 million sterling collection for the National Children's Home.

The jigsaw consisted of 1,020 pieces and each piece represented a thousand pounds collected by branches of the charity throughout Britain. It showed some of the children cared for by the charity.

The puzzle was made by troops of a Royal Engineers unit and helping to lay them out in London's famous square were charity workers and children. It took all day to complete the puzzle -- the culmination of a million-pound fund-raising effort on behalf of a nation's homeless children.
