Background: Polisario guerrillas are prepared to continue their fight for the independence of the Moroccan-administered Western Sahara. this was affirmed by Polisario representative, Mohamed Habibhallah in Paris on June 9. Speaking at the Hotel Pont Royal in the French capital, Mr. Habibhallah said the recent admission of the Polisario's Saharan Democratic Republic (SADR) as the 51st member of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), was an important step towards international recognition. He told reporters and guests at the reception to commemorate the Polisario's ninth year of fighting, that the SADR had been greatly encouraged by this recognition. Mr. Habibhallah denounced the United States backing of Morocco claims over the SADR and expressed the hope that other countries would follow the French government's recent move to give official status to the Polisario Front.
