    The new Israeli Ambassador to the Central African Republic, Mr Michael Itzhak, arrived at the Presidential Palace in Bangui on Tuesday (28 July) to present his credentials to President Jean Bedel Bokassa.

    Government officials and military leaders were present at the ceremony to listen to speeches from the Ambassador and the President.

    President Bokassa outlined his country's attitude to the Middle-East situation, saying that developments were being watched with interest and concern, and that the Central African Republic...which believed in the need for peace and harmony ... hoped an end to the fighting would come soon. It supported the November resolution of the United Nations Security Council.

    Following the speeches Mr Itzhak presented his credentials to President Bokassa and was officially received as the Israeli Ambassador in Bangui.
