Background: The french garrison in Djibouti, Affars and Issas, has been strengthened as France takes along hard look at the Soviet military presence in the Indian Ocean. Lying on the Red Sea, Djibouti is of great military importance and France seems determined to keep her presence there on a high military footing.
Its expected an aircraft carrier and up to sc other naval vessels will arrive in Djibouti within the next two weeks. The port will be their home base.
On Sunday(29 September) a cargo ship arrived at the port carrying army vehicles and ammunition. The munitions were crated in four-ton containers and about 200 were unloaded and taken by convoy to the military base in the town. It's expected another cargo ship will arrive within the next few days with munitions and parts for the air base.
