MANY LEADING FIGURES FROM THE BOXING WORLD WATCHED THE OPENING BOUTS AND THE GHANA MINISTER OF EDUCATION, MR. A.J. DOWOUNA-HAMMOND, WAS THERE REPRESENTING THE GOVERNMENT.

FEW SPECTATORS ATTENDED THE CHAMPIONSHIPS SINCE THE OPENING HAD BEEN POSTPONED FORM THE PREVIOUS SATURDAY, AND TORRENTIAL RAIN HAD MADE TRAVELLING DIFFICULT.

THE GHANAIAN BOXERS DISTINGUISHED THEMSELVES BY WINNING ALL THEIR FOUR CONTESTS ON THE FIRST DAY. FILM, SHOWS THE FEATHERWEIGHT FIGHT BETWEEN MAXIM AMOO OF GHANA, AND NIGERIA'S KAYIM AMAH. ALTHOUGH THE FIRST TWO ROUNDS WERE FAIRLY EVEN, IN THE FINAL THIRD ROUND AMOO FORCED THE PACE TO COLLECT A POINTS DECISION.

ALSO SHOWN IS THE FEATHERWEIGHT MATCH BETWEEN BADAWI EL BADWI OF THE U.A.R. AND SALAMI ADISAFE OF TOGO. THE MORE EXPERIENCED U.A.R. BOXER DOMINATED THE CONTEST THROUGHOUT TO TAKE VICTORY ON POINTS.

GHANA ARE FAVOURITES THIS YEAR TO TAKE THE TITLE FROM THE U.A.R. TEAM, BUT THE KENYA TEAM HAVE GIVEN AN IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY IN THEIR FIGHTS AS WELL.
