    THE GROUP IS LED BY MR. JOHN TILNEY, UNDERSECRETARY FOR COMMONWEALTH AFFAIRS, AND INCLUDES BRITAIN'S TOP SOLDIER, GENERAL SIR RICHARD HULL, CHIEF OF THE IMPERIAL GENERAL STAFF.

    THEIR TASKS INCLUDE ASCERTAINING THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT'S POLITICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE SITUATION AND INDIA'S ARMS REQUIREMENTS.

    A FEW HOURS BEFORE THE MISSION LEFT LONDON, AN AIR FORCE BRITANNIA AIRCRAFT, LOADED WITH ARMS AND EQUIPMENT, TOOK OFF FOR INDIA. IT WAS THE FIRST OF 12 FLIGHTS PLANNED TO CARRY 150 TONS OF MILITARY EQUIPMENT TO INDIA OVER THE NEXT FOUR OR FIVE DAYS.
