Background: Collectors from all over Europe gathered at London's Bonnington Hotel Oct 2 when the British Matchbox Label and Booklet Society held their 16th annual exhibition.
The proceedings were opened by Mr Otto Linbohm of Stockholm, Sweden, a collector of international repute, owner of the largest collection in Europe - over 175,000 labels.
Schoolboys mixed with learned professors in sorting through a mass of labels priced at one penny each. Joined with one aim they were looking for a'treasure'.
Top price at a later auction was raised by a special presentation set of Hussar matches brought from Sweden by Mr Linbohm and sold for three pounds.
