  • Description

A JAPANESE MILLIONAIRE WHO PLANNED TO BUY LONDON BRIDGE CHANGED HIS MIND WHEN HE SAW IT THIS WEEK BECAUSE HE THOUGHT IT MIGHT NOT LOOK AS IMPRESSIVE IN TOKIO.

THE MILLIONAIRE, MR. KEONG YONG CHUONG, WAS PREPARED TO PAY UP TO GBP5,000,000 (5,000,000,000 YEN) FOR THE BRIDGE, WHICH WAS RECENTLY PUT UP FOR SALE BY THE LONDON CIVIC AUTHORITIES. HE WANTED TO RE-ERECT IT IN A HUGE AMUSEMENT PARK HE IS BUILDING AT NASU ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF TOKIO. NOW HE PLANS TO ERECT A FULL-SIZE REPLICA OF TOWER BRIDGE - ANOTHER OF LONDON'S FAMOUS LANDMARKS - IN THE PARK. THE PRESENT LONDON BRIDGE WAS BUILT 136 YEARS AGO TO REPLACE THE 65-YEAR-OLD ONE CELEBRATED IN THE NURSERY RHYME 'LONDON BRIDGE IS FALLING DOWN.'
THERE HAVE BEEN 100 ENQUIRIES SO FAR TO BUY THE BRIDGE.
