Seven years ago died Trilussa, the third poet of Rome after Belli and Pascarella. His was not the heroic age Rome, his was the poor, sceptic, apatic, lower middle-class Rome.
His characters are the lowest clerks, the shopkeepers, the footmen, deluded people who go to the pawnbrokers shop to reach the end of the month.
The fame of Trilussa is known in many countries, his fables compared with those of Esopus, Fhoedrus, La Fontaine.
The speaking animals of his fables talk with an ancient and popular wisdom and say things which could not be said by men during the dictature time. And Trilussa became the modern "Pasquino". (Pasquino is an ancient roman statue under which the people of Rome put their critics against the Pope and the government)
Now the people of Rome commemorates him with the square which bears his name and where the old people spend their siestas. Here is now his statue.
Those are the streets, the squares the roofs of Rome which he is talking about in his poetrys.
