    At least four people died when two railway coaches plunged over a precipice near Megara, 28 miles (45 kms) west of Athens, on Friday (16 February) night.

    A third carriage in the four-carriage train was left balanced precariously on the edge of the precipice.

    At least 36 passengers were injured in the accident. Five of them were listed as in serious condition.

    The train was on its way from Patras, in the Peloponnese, to Athens when it left the rails.

    Police, railway authorities and firemen searched throughout the night for passengers who might be trapped inside the derailed carriages.
