  • Description

ANOTHER MASS GRAVE HAS BEEN FOUND NEAR HUE IN SOUTH VIETNAM. THE BODIES OF NEARLY 300 PEOPLE WERE DUG UP NEAR PHU THU IN THUA THIEN PROVINCE. THEY ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN EXECUTED BY COMMUNISTS DURING THE TET OFFENSIVE IN FEBRUARY LAST YEAR.

RELATIVES OF PEOPLE MISSING AFTER THE BLOODY, 28-DAY SIEGE OF HUE SURROUNDED THE GRAVE IN AN ATTEMPT TO IDENTIFY THE BODIES. THE PHU THU GRAVE IS THE LATEST OF SEVERAL GRAVES CONTAINING VICTIMS OF THE COMMUNIST OFFENSIVE IN HUE DURING THE LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS EIGHTEEN MONTHS AGO.

RELATIVES AND TROOPS LIFTED THE BODIES FROM THE GRAVE AND PLACED THEN IN NYLON BAGS READY FOR TRANSPORTATION TO HUE FOR IDENTIFICATION.

THE VICTIMS WERE SOLDIERS, TEACHERS, POLICEMEN, MINOR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, FARMERS AND ORDINARY CITIZENS OF HUE AND SURROUNDING AREAS.
