    South Korea and Singapore are to be hold annual ministerial meetings to discuss matters of mutual and regional concern.

    This was agree in talks between visiting Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew and South Korean Premier Choi Kyu-Hah.

    SYNOPSIS: Mr. Lee began a six day official visit to South Korea on Tuesday (16 October), the first by a Singapore Prime Minister.

    Singapore established diplomatic relations with both North and South Korea in 1975.

    After a state welcome in Seoul's Capitol Plaza, Prime Minister Lee and his South Korean counterpart Mr. Choi held talks on regional security and political matters.

    The two prime minister agreed that Singapore and South Korea should expand trade, capital, technical and economic cooperation.

    A South Korean official said Mr. Choi told Mr. Lee that his country wanted to increase cooperation with the Association of South East Asian Nations.

    Both men agreed that an ongoing dialogue between both countries should be made permanent with annual ministerial meetings to be held in Seoul and Singapore alternatively.

    Sources close to the talks said South Korea also asked Singapore to act as an intermediary in arranging trade between itself and China.

    During his stay in South Korea, Mr. Lee will pay a courtesy call on President Park Chung-Hee before flying to Tokyo on Sunday (21 October).
