    FOUR AFRICAN HEAD OF STATE WERE IN BAMAKO, THE CAPITAL OF MALI, EARLIER THIS WEEK. THEY WERE: PRESIDENT NKRUMAH OF GHANA, PRESIDENT SEKOU TOURE OF GUINEA, PRESIDENT BEN BELLA OF ALGERIA, AND PRESIDENT KEITA OF MALI.

    PRESIDENT NKRUMAH SAID ON ARRIVAL IN BAMAKO THAT HE HAD COME TO DISCUSS AFRICAN AND INTERNATIONAL PROBLEMS. HE WAS THEN BELIEVED TO BE ON HIS WAY FOR A MEETING WITH THE OTHER PRESIDENT IN CONAKRY, GUINEA. HOWEVER AFTER MEETING PRESIDENT MODIBO KEITA OF MALI AND PRESIDENT BEN BELLA OF ALGERIA HE DECIDED TO FLY HOME, PRESIDENT TOURE WAS ALSO IN BAMAKO FOR A SHORT WHILE BUT HE RETURNED THE SAME DAY IN ORDER TO GREET THE HEADS OF STATE ON ARRIVAL IN GUINEA.

    THE FOLLOWING DAY PRESIDENT BEN BELLA AND PRESIDENT KEITA ARRIVED IN GUINEA. THEY WERE MET BY PRESIDENT TOURE AND LARGE ENTHUSIASTIC CROWDS AND BANDS EVERYWHERE THEY WENT.

    ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THEIR BRIEF VISIT WAS TO BE GUESTS OF HONOUR AT A RALLY IN A SPORT STADIUM AT CONAKRY. BOTH MEN SPOKE OF THEIR COUNTRIES AS REPRESENTING A SECTION OF THE O.A.U. (ORGANISATION FOR AFRICAN UNITY) WHICH HAD CHOSEN A NON-CAPITALIST PATH. THEY STRESSED THE IMPORTANCE OF THE WORK OF THE AFRICAN UNITY ORGANISATION AND SAID THAT THEIR MEETING WOULD STRENGTHEN THE FOUNDATION OF AFRICAN UNITY.
