    The new and enlarged National Assembly of the Ivory Coast met in Abidjan on Wednesday(December 16) and re-elected Philippe Yace as its president. M. Yace will serve for the five year term of assembly. The assembly, elected on November 29, has been enlarged from 85 members to 100.

    In addition to the re-appointment of M. Yace as president, the National Assembly members also elected its new executive committee, enlarged from 12 to 18 members.

    The first function of the National Assembly has been to study two budgets -- a general budget and a special budget to cover investment and development.

    In his inaugural speech to the National Assembly the acting-President, Moustapha Soumahoro spoke of the need for the youth of the Ivory Coast to have a voice in the government of the country. He spoke also of the advances made during the life of the previous assembly, and the goals and problems that could face the new membership.
