HOWEVER, MISS GREENE FAILED EARLIER THIS WEEK TO COMPLETE THE SLALOM COURSE AND WAS UNPLACED IN THE FINAL CLASSIFICATION.

    TODAY'S TRIUMPH PUT MISS GREENE FURTHER AHEAD WITH A LEAD OF 40 POINTS IN THE NEW WORLD CUP COMPETITION TO DECIDE THE SEASON'S BEST SKIER. POINTS ARE AWARDED FOR PERFORMANCES IN SELECTED CLASSIC RACES AND AFTER TODAY WERE: I. NANCY GREENE 100 POINTS; ANNIE FAMOSE (FRANCE) 60; FLORENCE STEURER (FRANCE) AND MARIELLE GOITSCHEL 40; FRENANDE BOCHATAY (SWITZERLAND) 39; ISRAELI MIR (FRANCE) 37.

    AT GRINDELWALD, MISS GREENE, A 23-YEAR-OLD BRITISH COLUMBIAN, HURTLED DOWN THE ONE-POINT-FIVE MILE (2.33 KMS) COURSE IN TWO MINUTES 5.32 SECONDS. SHE WAS NEARLY ONE-AND-A-HALF SECONDS FASTER THAN MISS MIR WITH MISS STEURER IN THIRD PLACE.

    MISS MIR, A RISING TEENAGE STAR, WAS PLACED FIRST IN THE COMBINED CLASSIFICATION FOR TODAY'S RACE AND THE SLALOM WHICH OPENED THE FOUR-DAY MEETING. MARIELLE GOITSCHEL, WORLD CHAMPION IN THE ALPINE COMBINATION, WAS SECOND, WITH TRAUDL HECHER, OF AUSTRIA, THIRD.
