Background: The 26th World Military Boxing Championships got under way in Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday (July 3) with 68 amatour boxers from eight countries cying for 11 titles.
South Korea, which last year won five gold medals, contested all 11 international weight divisions from light flyweight to heavyweight. Nigeria and host nation Thailand also fought in all the divisions.
The United States entered all of the divisions - except bantam weight -- france sent seven boxers, and West Germany, Ivory Coast and Iran, six each.
In the first two days of preliminary bouts (July 3 and 4), the Thai boxers have maintained an unbeaten record. The Nigerian squad won three victories on the opening day (Wednesday), but lost two and won two bouts on Thursday.
The finals of the Championships, organised by the Counseil Internationale du Sport Militaire, will be held on July. 8.
