Four women urban guerrillas are on the run in Italy after a daring jailbreak on SundaY (3 January) in which their accomplices blasted a hole in the wall of Ravigo prison and fought off guards with machineguns. One of the fugitives form the women's prison is Susana Ronconi, a former Red Brigades leader alleged to have taken part in the kidnap and murder of leading Italian politician Aldo Moro in 1978. The other women are Lorendana Biancamano, Marina Premoli and Federica Meroni, who, with Ronconi, are believed to be members of the Front Line guerrilla group. The bomb which blew out the prison wall, was placed in a parked car. One man, a passer-by, died in the explosion and six others were injured. The escape was the first major jailbreak since 16 people, many of them guerrillas, shot their way out of a Milan jail in 1980.
