    BAD WEATHER TODAY (SUNDAY) PREVENTED THE PLANNED STAGING OF A CROSS CHANNEL WATER SKI RACE BUT A FOUR CIRCUIT - 35 MILE RACE WAS HELD IN ITS PLACE. HUGE WAVES BUFFETED THE SKIERS WHO BATTLED TO COMPLETE THE JOURNEY. MANY RETIRED.

    THE THIRD ANNUAL CROSS CHANNEL WATER SKI RACE, ORGANISED BY THE WHITSTABLE WATER SKI CLUB - HAD ATTRACTED A HUGE ENTRY, DESPITE THE UNSAVOURY CONDITIONS, SOME FINE PERFORMANCES WERE RECORDED ON THE IMPROVISED COURSE, ALTHOUGH SOME SKIERS STRUGGLED TO STAY UPRIGHT AND OTHERS CAME TO GRIEF.

    THE YOUNGEST COMPETITOR 15 YEAR OLD JANICE BROWN OF CONISTON BOAT CLUB, RETIRED AFTER ONLY ONE ROUND. THE WINNING TEAM COMPRISED J. BOARDMAN, T. SLEAP AND K.BOARDMAN OF ROMNEY MARSH MARINE AND MOTORS.
