  • Description

Nairobi, the kenyan capital, is to have a new airport terminal building as part of a GBP 12 million development project.

Excavation work has already begun on the foundations of the passenger terminal and control block. The new terminal will be able to handle more than 1,000 arriving and departing passengers an hour. It is expected to be completed by mid 1976 when the airport is likely to be dealing with about two and a half million passengers a year.

The new complex will consist of a 50 metre (164 ft.) high control tower, state pavilion and freight building, as well as the passenger terminal. It will be on the opposite side of the airport from the present terminal -- so as the reduce noise nuisance to residents in the city.

Nairobi's planners are also working on a new main road to the airport and a network of internal roads.

The World Bank is lending the kenyan government 29 million dollars (about GBP 12 million sterling) for the project.
