SYNOPSIS: King Feisal of Saudi Arabia has just ended a week-long visit to the United Arab Republic. It's his first visit since Anwar el-Sadat became President of Egypt last September, and the two leaders came some way towards bridging the political gulf between their two countries. King Feisal is more pro-Western, and President Sadat is a socialist. They had a busy agenda of political discussions, centred mainly around the Middle East crisis, but took time off on Friday to visit the AI-Azhar Mosque in Cairo.

At the end of their week of discussions, the leaders of the two largest Arab nations appealed in a joint communique to the world to back the Arabs in the Middle East crisis, and declared that there could be no lasting peace until Jerusalem and the occupied territories were liberated.

King Feisal and President Sadat also declared their full support for the Palestine Liberation movement, which is facing difficulties with the Jordan government. And in their first joint political move to do with the crisis, the two leaders sent a message to King Hussein of Jordan.

After their prayers at the Mosque, King Feisal and President Sadat drove to the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Cairo, where they received foreign dignitaries.

The joint communique also contained a pledge to promote constructive cooperation between the two countries in all vital spheres. Apart from the Middle East question, which occupied by far the largest part of the talks and the final communique, King Feisal and President Sadat also discussed the general situation in both the Arab and Islamic worlds.

Their meeting ended with President Sadat accepting an invitation to visit Saudi Arabia.
