  • Description

General Roger Couetdic, head of the French Military Cooperation Mission to Togo, arrived at Lome on Wednesday (20 October), to present a DC3 aircraft to the Togolese armed forces.

The presentation ceremony took place at the Tokoin military airfield. It was attended by M. Jean Pierre Campredon, French Ambassador to Togo, M. Alex Mivedor, Minister for Public Works and Transport, and other senior Togolese government officials.

The DC3 aircraft, often better knows as the Dakota, is one of the most famous propeller-driven aircraft still in service today. It originated from the DC family built up by the Douglas Aircraft company during the 1930's. The first DC3 was flown in 1935, and its success as an all purpose aircraft was immediate. During the Second World War, over ten thousand of them were manufactured. And for peaceful purposes, the aircraft was selected by Air France for its famous night mail services.
