    PRESIDENT JULIUS NYERERE OF TANZANIA YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) LAID THE FOUNDATION STONE FOR ONE OF THE COUNTRY'S LARGEST SINGLE INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS SINCE ITS INDEPENDENCE -- A TEXTILE MILL IN DAR ES SALAAM FINANCED BY THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA. IT WILL COST GBP2,500,000 STERLING.

    THE NEW TEXTILE MILL IS BEING BUILT UNDER A GBP19,-MILLION INTEREST FREE LOAN, WHICH THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT HAS MADE AVAILABLE TO TANZANIA, FOR THE COUNTRY'S NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME.

    THE PLANT WILL ALSO BE EQUIPPED WITH MACHINERY FROM CHINA. WHEN IT IS COMPLETED IN ABOUT TWO YEARS, IT WILL EMPLOY THREE-THOUSAND WORKERS AND TURN OUT 24-MILLION SQUARE YARDS (ABOUT 20-MILLION SQUARE METRES) OF CLOTH EACH YEAR.

    THREE HUNDRED GUESTS ATTENDED YESTERDAY'S CEREMONY INCLUDING THE CHINESE AMBASSADOR, MR. HO YING.
