Coming at the heel of his mini-summit at Riadh with the heads of Saudi Arabia and Syria, Sadat's visit to Tehran was termed "timely and important" by political observers.

The monarch, in welcoming the Egyptian chief executive at the glittering banquet at Niavaran Palace said that Iran's sympathies not only remained with the president but were increasing because Iran was convinced of the righteousness of the Egyptian stand.
In reply, Sadat expressed confidence that Iran and Egypt would succeed in their struggles to achieve their national goals. Iran, under the Shahanshah's leadership, was taking great strides toward higher levels of welfare and progress and Egypt was surmounting its difficulties in an honourable manner.
Later in a press conference, Sadat said that he would be mediating between Iraq and Kuwait in their disputes. With reference to Gromyko's insurance of secure boarders for Israel if it withdraws from Arab territories, Sadat said that it would be a suitable solution on the Arab-Israeli conflict.
