    LIVERPOOL, WINNERS OF THE F.A. CUP LAST YEAR, AND LEAGUE WINNERS IN 1964, DEFEATED STOKE CITY AT HOME TWO NIL. WITH ONLY A POINT NEEDED TO WIN THE LEAGUE TITLE, THE TEAM SEEM ASSUME OF WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

    LIVERPOOL PLAYED AN ATTACKING GAME THROUGHOUT THE MATCH. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE EARLY IN THE GAME TO SCORE, BUT IT WAS NOT UNTIL AFTER HALF AN HOUR THAT JEFFREY STRONG PUT IN LIVERPOOL'S FIRST GOAL.

    A FEATURE OF THE GAME WAS THE BRILLIANT DEFENCE OF STORK CITY'S GOALKEEPER, FARMER, WHO CONFIDENTLY DEALT WITH LIVERPOOL'S ATTACKS.

    LIVERPOOL'S SECOND GOAL CAME IN THE SECOND HALF WHEN IAN ST. JOHN CAPTURED THE BALL.

    DESPITE THE SCORE, THE LIVERPOOL PLAYERS SEEMED TO BE PLAYING BELOW THEIR BEST FORM.

    LIVERPOOL NOW HAVE 58 POINTS IN THE LEAGUE TABLE. THEY LEAD BURNLEY WITH 49 POINTS. THIRD ON THE LEAGUE TABLE ARE LEEDS, WITH 48 POINTS.
