SYNOPSIS: In Amman, experts from the Jordanian Ministries of Economics and Finance as well as other economics bodies met at the Ministry of Economics on Saturday. They were preparing for the meeting of the Arabian Economic Council in Cairo later this month. The Council aims to increase economic co-operation and harmony between Arab countries in the realisation of joint projects.

One problem the Jordanian economics experts hope to clear up in Cairo is the closure of the Syrian border. The Syrians closed their border last July after clashes between the Jordanian army and Palestinian guerillas. The resulting sudden decrease in trade has had a severe effect on the economy of Jordan. Goods have had to be imported through the Port of Aqaba, losing time and money.
