An Inquiry Committee was appointed on Nov. 1 to establish:
a. The circumstances b. Degree of responsibility c. the compensation which the Government should pay.
The Committee submitted its report on Nov. 6 on accordance with the conclusions:
1. The Commander of the Border Patrol unit and a number of men under his command (11 who carried out an illegal order have been committed for trial.
2. Immediate avance payment were made by the Government to every family which had suffered.
In a statement to the Knesset (Parliament, at the time, Prime Minister Ben Gourion expressed his profound shock and that of the Government at the killing of a number of Arabs in Kafr Kassim. The House adopted a resolution condemning the tragic occurrence.
While the case is still being heard in a Military Tribunal, the special committee appointed to fix amount of compensation reported its findings. The Committee recommendations also request that the Government arrange and pay for the holding of a "sulha" (a reconciliatory feast) to restore good feeling between the parties involved, according to Arab tradition.
