South African anti-apartheid politicians Colin Eglin and Mrs. Helen Suzman stopped only for a transit?

  • Description

South African anti-apartheid politicians Colin Eglin and Mrs. Helen Suzman stopped only for a transit visit in the Ivory capital, Abidjan last week (7 October) having failed to secure an extended stay for talks with Government representatives.

Mrs. Suzman, South Africa's only Progressive Party M.P., and her party chairman, Mr. Eglin, were in the course of a tour of Black African countries, and had negotiated for talks in the Ivory Coast from South Africa.

This was how the two South Africans explained their reception in the Ivory Coast to BBC reporter Mrs. Tamar Golan.
