Troops of the Kenya Army, led by their Commander, Brigadier J.K. Mulinge, and the Chief?

  • Description

Troops of the Kenya Army, led by their Commander, Brigadier J.K. Mulinge, and the Chief of the Defence Staff, Major General Ndolo, gave blood for their country's blood banks at the start of Armed Forces Week on Monday (October 12). They queued up at the Nairobi Blood Donation Centre.

Kenya Armed Forces Week coincides this year with a national Blood Donation Week to replenish the country's hospital blood banks. Before taking part in the various events which mark the armed forces week, the troops went to the blood transfusion centre set up in Nairobi. On Thursday (October 15) troops throughout Kenya are to give more blood for the blood banks.

SYNOPSIS: The Blood Donation Centre in Nairobi was one of the first venues for troops stationed in the city to take part in Kenya's annual Armed Forces Week.

The soldiers queued up outside the centre and gave pint after pint of blood to replenish the blood banks of the country's hospitals.

The good example was set by the Chief of Staff, Major General Ndolo, and by the Commander of the Kenya Army, Brigadier J.K. Mulinge, who was the first to give blood.

After Brigadier Mulinge and his aides had donated blood, the other officers followed their example. The Blood Donation Centre in Nairobi is part of the Blood Transfusion Research Centre which not only stores blood for use in hospitals, but also investigates blood types and their distribution in Kenya.

In other parts of Kenya, other donation centres have been set up to receive blood donations during the rest of the week, not only from the troops, but also from civilians.
